Ametefe Kukubor
Ametefe Kukubor (Amet) was born in 1984 in Accra, Ghana lives and works in Accra, Ghana. He
majored in painting at Ghanatta College of Art and Design. Drawing had been a childhood therapy
for Ametefe which developed into an art journey.
Growing up at a place like North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Circle, Kotobabi and living in other
places like Spintex Road and Agbogba, Ametefe has been highly exposed to various lifestyles and
people of various statuses which have contributed much to his works. He over the years has drawn
inspiration from such places and people which form a greater part of his work. Generally, his works
question philosophies, ideas, ways of life, doctrines and so on. His works also share ideas and
stories to inspire good course, celebrate excellence, provoke thoughts and spark discussions with
He employs the expressionism technique to depict his bitter-sweet narratives. Here he applies his
paint with squeegees of different sizes. Carefully molding his subject with short tiles of acrylic
paints (sometimes with oils) with squeegee, he paints his subjects out from the large and long carefree
colourful strokes that form the undercoat. Some portions of the main subject are left
untouched, exposing the first coat of thick strokes. This, Ametefe does to communicate how our
surroundings have greater influence on us; how we are in one way or the other merged with our
immediate surroundings.
